Spanish MalagueƱa

This video is for a few of my students, but particularly Sam. Any of you who watch, if you have ideas on how to better film both hands playing, do comment. I have a few more angles on my computer that I'm thinking about uploading.

9th Chord + Basic Blues Progression

Melissa and I are working one of the most useful chord progressions in jazz and rock playing - the Blues. She just commented on her post that she needed the shapes, so here they are. Keep in mind that this is only one "key" of a blues progression, and that they could be played starting on a different fret to play in a different key. In this case, I started on the 5th fret (A Blues).I took these pictures really quick. I'll edit later with better materials. The pictures go in order, I chord, IV chord, and V chord. (chord progressions use roman numerals by convention)

Zach

It's been a while since our last lesson! Here's our new piece: Rumores De La Caleta (Rumors of the Caleta). I'm glad you want to learn this one. You should know at least a little history of this piece. It was originally written for piano (because Albeniz was a pianist) and is from a 7 piece collection called "Recuerdos De Viaje" (Memories of Travel).

Good work on the "double stop" technique! Now we'll use it in a really cool Waltz from Book 2. Here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEEKclLd5wg (the performer is 5 years old. incredible)

Tyler and Brandon

Tyler is working on some rock material- "Barracuda" by Heart. Specifically, work on playing at the same speed as the recording. You were really close today, just keep strummin'. Here's a video to play along with: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bt_-R5LInU

Using a metronome would help, too ;) And of course, don't forget your Suzuki Review, sir.

Brand-o! Keep working on Capricho this week and see if you can get back to where you were - keep fighting the good fight! I'd love to see you finish this piece. Here's a recording I made: http://www.poodus.com/audio/Capricho_Arabe.mp3

Good luck this week. Make a comment on this page so I know you got here - and please share any progress or questions.
